Charles Sanford Smith has previously worked or interned for the New York City Department of Probation, The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, and the Kings County District Attorney's Office. His experience provides him with a unique perspective with respect to violations of probation. Charles is also adept at handling other probation issues such as modifying the terms of probation and certificates of relief from disabilities.

Charles studied with a number of preeminent practitioners and scholars in criminal defense including William Hellerstein and Gerald Shargel.
